Speedpainting

Fueling my obsessions and realising I should draw something even if I wasn't inking pages (Which is what I'm supposed to be doing...), this came about.

Opencanvas speedpaint, unreferenced, 2 hours ish or so? I don't really know. Considering I didn't use a reference, I pretty pleased with how it turned out. I think the hair is my favourite part - something just clicked about how I was painting it.

Bonus points to anyone who knows who this is! Clue - he's irish, and has a minor obsession with leprechauns. Kinda.

Digital Painting

I don't do very many lifestudies at all. I have an aversion to them, and a lack of time (I could be doing something that I want to do, or I could do soemthing that in the long run will make me better but is annoying in the mean time. Due to the lack of time/impulsive teenagerism, I go for the first more often). But, my art grade needs pulling up (in light of the fact that you need 80% to get an A. And 95% to make an A*. The grade boundaries are really high), so reall life reference painting it is.

For my first attempt in digital painting in what seems like ages (it's been a good year or so, I think), I don't think I did too badly. The patience for digital painting at an intensive, perfect level is not there in me at all, but for school work, I'm doing fine.

Environment concepts

I'm not a huge fan of drawing backgrounds. I'm not sure I really know many people who enjoy it, actually. I find that I struggle to think of what to draw in the backgrounds, and it's a lot easier just to leave it blank. However, I realise it's important to have backgrounds and a grounding for the environment where the story takes place.

As most of the story (which has yet to be written) is centered around the relationship between the two characters, and takes place in the cafe that is the boy's place of work, I thought it was really important to try and get some ideas down about the look of the cafe.

I feel like I'm starting to carve out the look, but it has a long way to go before it's complete. Thoughts?

Character Designs

Happy New Years everyone! I'm starting it off well I think - main goal of this year is to be more organised! I also have a new project that I'm working on to kick start the year.

I've been busy character designing. I haven't got much solid beyond these - I like the character's to take shape in my mind before I get working on the story. I think I'll get going on some environment concepts, before sitting down and scripting the story. I want to get all the prep work out the way soon - allowing, of course, for what school sets.

Main character - she hasn't got a name yet. She's an amateur novellist in her mid 20's, currently managing to make a sparse living off writing but not really what she wants. Spends far too much of her time complaining and sitting in coffee shops. Enjoys a good fantasy/mystery story, and her work is aimed at teenagers.

He is somewhere around his late teens/early 20s (younger than the woman) and works in a cafe. Doesn't really have many goals in his life, and is the main venting post for the woman's complaints about the world. Is also the main consult for her novel/fiction stuff.

Wow, it's been a long time

This blog has been severely neglected. However, I shall now attempt to start it up again. There are several reasons for my neglect.

Firstly was the Daily Draw. I was already posting to one blog daily, so to keep up another one seemed to be an awful lot of time that I simply did not have.

That lasted up until about March/April. And then life took over for about a month.

Then my laptop blew up. Well, not literally, but it has not been working pretty much since May. But now I am back, and in full force.

At the moment, I'm mainly working on a short comic that was originally intended for the Manga Jiman competition, but as I was very disorganised and didn't get it in for the deadline, it will now be submitted to Leek and Sushi 2.0. See here if you're interested.

I also bring a random sketch I've been working on.

This is Loce of Legendary Saviour. I think I've finally come up with a design I'm happy with. The story is finally starting to really shape itself, though it'll be a few yeara before it'll be ready to be told, and who knows how many years it'll be before I'm ready to tell it.

Anyway, if you want to catch me, I'll be at the V&A for the comic day with Sweatdop Studios, and the London MCM Expo this October. Hopefully, there will be some posting soon.

Rockin' it Out

I come with more sketch pages!! Been doing a lot of that recently - lots of free time in school where I can't do much else.

Various sketches of Legendary Saviour characters (which is being worked on, I swear! Currently thinking about maps, geography, transport systems and food... ahh, food) Quite a lot of Jon and Claire on here, but I do feel they don't get drawn enough.

And squee at Samuel storming off in long trench coat. It's so cute!!!

Wahh, squee at Illie and Luke chibis. Plus various pictures of Loce, now complete with glasses. Ahh... he looks good in glasses. And we have Nelly in full ceremonial robes, maps, and half steam trains. All in all, this is an awesome sketch page. (Thank you to the many people at VERVE at the Fitzwilliam for inspiring me)

Started it off as an attempt to get some serious work done (as seen by the map at the top) but quickly descended into madness. Started with a comment about how a guy I know should be chibified (so he was) and then everyone else wanted to be immortilised in my sketchbook as well. After I'd done the first two, I just had to do a second panel, and then the mad scribble came

More Sketches

And here I am, back with more and more sketches.... that were done a while ago, but hey.

Don't know if anyone's read Garth Nix's Key's To The Kingdom series, but I really like it, and the characters are very awesome. There's quite a Steampunky/Victorian/Lolita Aristocrat feel about the house... mainly Steampunk, but it's really cool.

We've got Suzy and Arthur up at the top - bit of an AU sort of thing going on here with the entire "I've probably completely mucked up the timelines". Leaf in some semblance of a band t-shirt on the right, and below her Arthur yelling at some vague attempt at Dame Primus (only I'm fairly certain Dame Primus would be taller), more to the left is Suzy Turqouise Blue (again) and on the far left is Fred... well, kinda. Not looking very Fred like as I didn't have any reference material at the time.

Breakfast Superheroes!!! Started off as a bit of a joke between me and a friend about the fact that I'm stark raving mad over tea... Mention it to another friend and suddenly we have a whole load of them. It's quite funny to imagine their antics...

Also here we have Bridjet (right)... I love drawing Bridjet. She's amazingly cool... And then Josh and girl who needs a name (toying with Lottie... ideas?). Yes, I have decided that Lottie and Claire are fairly tiny - Lottie's probably 4"10/11, with Claire about 5"0/1. And on the left we have Daniel looking melancholy. Very Melancholy. Probably just sad he's gone from the good guy to the villain over the course of the story...

Art Homework

Well, it's a new term and new things are happening. In Art we have moved onto the second part of our "Identity" Project, and are now studying portraiture.

We were given a homework to draw our face with strong life shining across it. So with a bit of amateur photography (tripods on chairs and a bit of mirror trickery) I managed to get a semi-decent shot of my face with which to paint.

I think we were techinically supposed to do it with pencil, but no one ever said... so... I'm painting mine.

This is what I've got done so far. Main shadows roughed out, face almost done... just needs some refinining now. So, so far so good. It's actually going better than I thought it would.

So, yay!

Shiny New Manga Studio Debut 4!!!!

I'm still trying to work out the various bits to this program, but I think I've got the basics down. So, this is what I have after an hour or two of mucking about...

Ignore the great number of mistakes an remember that this was purely mucking about. It's Ilfirin from Legendary Saviour!! Whoo... I really should draw more art of the other characters though. Get some official references up instead of just sketches.

It's coming upto the last week of school (only 4 and 1/2 days to go. Let me hear you say whoo!), so it's been Christmas presents galore over here. Not that many of them are very Christmassy, but you can't have everything.

This serves a double purpose... it's both a Christmas present for my good friend Komal, who is extremely awesome, and an image of Claire from Legendary Saviour when she was younger... Though how she found a park with a bunch of flowers in is beyond me...? (I'm blaming Komal...)

And a screencap on what I'm working on for another beloved friend, Geena. Nice, bright and colourful... I'm thinking of leaving it with the flats (not just because I don't have enough time to colour it properly, but because I think it looks nice like that)

Oh, and also a very happy Birthday to one Miss Faye Yong, who does some of the prettiest art I've ever seen. Just take a look for yourself... lots and lots of very pretty art

My First Post!

Ahh, a whole new blog. Feels exciting, new and fresh. *sniffs* Okay, so maybe you can't smell it, but it still has that nice shiny feel about it right?

So, what's the reason for a new blog? I'm happy enough back at Livejournal for personal stuff... but blogger looks nice and shiny for image posting. Actually, Nana Li posted something about how nice Blogger was for Art stuff, so that's why I'm here. You can go and thank her... shower her with lots of love, because she's very very awesome. Check out her stuff out here

I might as well get round to some Art posting mighten I... well, lets get on with it. Lets at least attempt to show I've been doing a decent amount of work for the past few weeks.

This was Sketched on the way up to The Clothes Show Live 2008 (which was amazing by the way. I'll put photos up when I've got them sorted) It was inspired by the song "Zombie" by The Cranberries.

And, now for some sketch work...! Yay!

The main characters from a little (I say little... they're trying to enlarge their room inside my head as we speak and make me write their story instead of other stuff), Morgan and Dreammaster, A fair bit of FMA fanart (chibi Winry + Ling and Ran Fan... whoo!) plus a side appearance from Muffin and a quick headshot of Nelly down the bottom. I do quite like the sketch of Morgan and Dreammaster in the top left... it's cute!

And now an entire sketch page full of Dreammaster sketches. Including... *drum rolll...* Dreammaster in glasses, which I think is very sexy. It just doesn't work full time. I'm trying to think of more reasons for him to wear glasses because he looks cool like that. Aenor and Morgan down the bottom just look weird though... ahh well. I quite like Aenor up the top though - she looks more sophisticated than I originally designed. And gasp, inking with Fineliners!!!

This is just a completely random sketch page though, with no real main charcaters. I think the one in the top left was supposed to be Jon, but it doesn't really look like him at all... Also includes shameless Clowns Cafe promotion... I love their Hot Chocolate.
